I'm a Psychodynamic Therapist with a specialism in Grief (Bereavement) Therapy.
I trained in Psychodynamic Therapy which encourages and enables us to reflect upon our early experiences and how these influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. When we grieve the loss of someone we love all these things come into play, along with our dreams and memories. I encourage my clients to take note of their dreams following a bereavement as these can provide us with helpful clues, while memories contain the seeds to help us craft a different, yet ongoing relationship with our loved one.
I'm an Anglican Priest, although no longer practising, and throughout my long role in the Church of England prioritised the pastoral care of the people in my parish and in my congregation, particularly grieving people. Eventually this pastoral emphasis led me to become a Healthcare Chaplain in the NHS where I worked in a variety of hospitals for nearly 20 years.
In 2018 I set up my Private Practice providing Grief Counselling, firm in the belief that, when we're enabled to grieve, and when we do so with greater understanding of what's happening to us, and how we might respond, then the outcome is more positive than when we receive little to no support or encouragement at all. Validation of your experience is a key element in my work.
Recognising the uniqueness of how grief affects each person, I don't work with a 'one size' approach to this important task.
I invite you to share with me your experience of loss and grief, as much or as little as you can bear to do at any time. In listening and responding to you, my aim is to encourage and enable you to lean into your grief and, in doing so, to gain insight and understanding about how grief affects you so that, over time, you may feel less overwhelmed by it, and more able to manage it.
While much is written about how we can recover from grief, my approach is to help you to work with it, and to acknowledge it as your travelling companion for the remainder of your life. I'll equip you with practical, creative and emotional resources to help you do this.
I work with individual Adults of all ages. My Practice is Inclusive.
I specialise in Grief Counselling after any type of loss.
