I have worked in the caring professions for 20+ years and am now over a decade into qualified practice as a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the HCPC, as well as being a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
I have extensive experience in both the public and charity sectors, having been a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS (severe and enduring mental health), Coordinator of Clinical Services for a Manchester based Christian charity predominately focussed on clergy welfare and selection, as well as having experience of the private sector as the Clinical Lead at Priory’s Manchester Wellbeing Centre, where I led a team of around 30 clinicians from various modalities. My most recent paid employment was again in the NHS as Clinical Lead for Manchester's Living Well service.
With the onset of the Covid pandemic, my practice moved more online and in order to ensure quality and excellence I undertook further training in online and telephone counselling.
I now work exclusively in private practice via my company Talking Therapy North Ltd where I see people either in-person or online as need dictates.
I work with clients over the age of 18, who are experiencing psychological distress in different ways; be that depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, work problems, or a general accumulation of life stressors. Over the years I have helped many different people work through many different problems in a safe and empathic therapy setting.
I approach each client as an individual, assess and tailor an intervention based on their personal situation and needs. Through collaborative dialogue, including healthy challenge, we work toward fresh insight into what maintains problems and new ways of coping.
I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2014 with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and specialised in psychodynamic approaches to therapy in order to get to the root of people's issues and begin the healing process. I am currently interested in and continuing to develop my Short Term Psychodynamic practice using the Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) model.
Doctoral level training however includes a variety of therapeutic approaches, which means I am not limited by a specific type of therapy; I draw on psychodynamic approaches, but also attachment theory, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and DBT skills. Through assessment and formulation, I work collaboratively with the client to find the best therapy approach for them.
I work with adults.
Longstanding depression and anxiety.

I offer a professional clinical supervision service to other HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologists, as well as to appropriately qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapists. On a case by case basis I am also willing to consider supervision of unqualified colleagues, working in Assistant Psychologist roles, as long as the governance structures in place around them are otherwise robust.
My approach to supervision is as follows:
The primary focus of supervision is the welfare of service users through supporting the ongoing personal and professional development of a supervisee.
Supervision will focus on the development of knowledge and skills in line with professional registration, and support the quality of a supervisee’s work.
The supportive function will be in relation to development of clinical, professional and leadership skills as well as appropriate self-care and career development.
Associated issues will also be discussed when it is relevant to do so, for example case management, ethical dilemmas, limits of competence, safeguarding etc.
Personal issues can be brought to supervision in so far as discussing their impact on professional practice.
Exploration of a supervisee’s thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and values may be undertaken to understand the impact of these on therapeutic work and wider professional practice.
Discussion and working through relationship and process aspects of supervision may also be considered.
My main therapeutic modalities are psychodynamic and attachment based therapies, and I draw on Hawkins and Shohet's Seven-Eyed model for supervision.
If you are looking for a new clinical supervisor, please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss whether I might be a good fit for you!
