If you’re scrolling through this directory, it’s probably because you feel you might need some help in addressing difficulties or challenges in your life.
Maybe you don't even know what it is that's wrong - but you know you are unhappy, or unsettled, at the moment and want to do something about it.
I passionately believe that it’s never too late to change – whether that be making changes in your life, or changing your attitude towards yourself – and I love having the opportunity to work with people to bring about that change; sometimes seemingly small changes can have a big impact.
I have particular interests in working with anxiety, including climate change anxiety; and also in working with autistic women / non-binary / trans people, those who wonder if they may be autistic, and people who – in whatever way – feel like they don’t fit in, or have felt othered. I have experience and interest in working with individuals living with a long-term or life-limiting condition, and with their carers / those close to them.
My background in Transactional Analysis means I have a particular interest in the influence that our inner Parent (self-critical, telling us what we’re doing wrong) and inner Child (trying to please others, anxious about mistakes) can have on our Adult lives.
Exploring these internal dynamics by talking about your present-day relationship patterns, and earlier life experiences and messages received, can bring real understanding of challenges you may be experiencing in your life, and of your emotional reactions. I can help you build your self-compassion, and discover that you can love yourself.
As well as offering counselling, I’m trained to teach Inner Relationship Focusing on a one-to-one basis. Inner Relationship Focusing is a self-help practice which can be transformative in helping you to develop a relationship with parts of you that tend to get ignored, squashed, or suppressed. It can be particularly useful if you feel numb or struggle to make contact with feelings, and equally if you are sometimes overwhelmed by emotions. Inner Relationship Focusing is particularly successful to develop your ability to manage anxiety, trauma responses and the inner critic.
When working with clients, I like to pay attention to the very young – and sometimes scared – child who is still there inside all of us, and to think about how we can take that small child by the hand and bring them with us, rather than pushing them away.
I use a practice called 'inner relationship focusing' in my life and in my work, to help make space for ALL the unwanted or rejected parts of us.
Identifying as white, cis-female and middle-class, I view myself as the stereotypical counsellor. I’m very aware that I hold privilege, not just with regard to my cultural background or skin colour, but also from other parts of my identity and life opportunities – and that this will influence my unconscious bias and assumptions I make. There may be parts of your identity or context that I need to educate myself about, and to be honest about my ignorance of. But I want to hear your truth and to be alongside you, paying attention to our different experiences, and appreciating our shared ones.
I’m passionate about how we can get comfort, nourishment and nurture by engaging with nature and the outdoors and believe strongly that humans are an integral part of the ecosystem – not separate from nature – and that we need to connect to the more-than-human world around us to keep our spirit healthy. I work outdoors with clients as well as indoors or online.
