I have worked as a counselling psychologist for 25 years, in many different settings. During this time it has been my privilege to work with people from all parts of the world as they grapple with the difficulties of life, sometimes in situations of acute stress or with little support to negotiate challenges. I have learnt so much from those who have trusted me to accompany them and hope to continue the journey with others
Its hard to reach out for help when things are not going well - I hope that I can help you think further about the difficulties the you are experiencing. I am practitioner psychologist with two decades worth of experience working in NHS mental health services, although I have more recently been working in the voluntary sector and for the Ministry of Defence. I work a lot with the impact of psychological trauma and major change, both of which can create real difficulties in peoples' lives. I really enjoy working cross culturally, and using difference as an area to explore with the people I work with, to help enlighten therapy work and open up new areas. I have a lot of experience of working with people based all around the world, as well as those working in the Humanitarian and Mission sectors. I am also really interested in how people manage challenges at work, and how our work-life balance can create symptoms and difficulties in other areas. I am a trained couple counsellor and enjoy working with couples or using a couple focus for individuals with relationship problems. In all my work, I notice the way that strict personal rules and high expectations can create problems, and mean that we lose compassion for ourselves at the times of life that we most need it
I am a counselling psychologist trained to work using a number of therapy approaches. My foundation is in Existential-Humanistic and Attachment Based Psychotherapy models. However, I have worked a lot with trauma and transition in different populations, and use ideas from Narrative Therapy for Trauma, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy & Somatic Trauma Therapy.
I work therapeutically with:
Individual adults (18 plus)
Couples
Trauma (war, organised violence, exile)
Cross cultural Therapy
Overseas staff or third country children
Therapy through interpreter
Couples

One of the most pleasurable aspect of working psychologically is the chance to think about therapy work with colleagues through reflective practice or ongoing clinical supervision. I have offered face to face supervision for both qualified staff and those in training, across a range of professional disciplines. I am a trained online supervisor and delight in using different media and creative approaches to supervision.
I am a counselling psychologist by background and worked for more than two decades both within the National Health Service and outside in the voluntary sector with people experiencing huge life changes, crises, difficulties in relationships and major losses. For over 19 years I ran an NHS service in Northeast London working with survivors of war and violence. I have a special interest in working with this sort of trauma and use a range of approaches drawn from narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and existential psychotherapy, aiming always to start where the person is with their experience, and to build on their existing skills, coping and resilience. I also have a lot of experience of working cross culturally, working in international settings and working with interpreters. These are elements I try very much to include in my supervision work with my supervisees. In a recent former role, I worked with international staff from the aid and mission sectors experiencing difficulties with psychological health and wellbeing and in the aftermath of critical incidents. A former humanitarian worker myself, I have an understanding of some of the complexities involved in working in this sector, and particularly in relation to the pressures of overwork and the difficulties of working in highly challenging environments. I have been on the Register of Applied Practice Supervisors of the British Psychological Society for more than 10 years and during my time as a supervisor, I have supervised both qualified staff and staff in training, working with psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists. In terms of working remotely, I have a certificate in online counselling from the OSCT and have been offering therapy remotely for a wide range of clients since late 2016. I am also a member of ACTO (the Association for Online Therapy) and am guided both by their Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics ( https://acto-org.uk/professional-conduct-code-ethics/ ) but also by the Code of Ethics and Conduct (2009 - https://www.bps.org.uk/news-and-policy/bps-code-ethics-and-conduct ) and practice guidelines (2017 - https://www.bps.org.uk/news-and-policy/practice-guidelines ) of the British Psychological Society, my professional accrediting body (although I am also registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council as are most practising psychologists). I receive regular supervision of my supervision work, with a particular focus on working online.
Multilingual / multicultural work
Trauma informed supervision
I tend to approach supervision very openly, exploring what might be the best approach for each individual supervisee depending on their requirements but also on their situation, client practices and needs. An initial contract provides the foundation for a clear joint purpose, with regular review points and feedback to build a safe relationship in which it is possible to take risks and learn from one another.
