Having studied psychology at Sussex University, gaining a BA
Hons), I worked and travelled for a few years, spending time in Greece, America and London. Settling in Plymouth I worked in the business world gaining a good understanding of it’s inevitable stresses and strains. In 1999 I embarked on an Integrated Therapeutic Counselling Course; which spanned many therapeutic areas and culminated in achieving an Advanced Diploma. I have worked in the voluntary sector, with a placement at the Glenborne Unit at Derriford Hospital, for the Psychotherapy department
at Ridgeview, Plymouth UK and for the Firebird Charity in Plymouth UK. The Firebird Charity was dedicated to women who have
been sexually abused and has now been absorbed by the NHS.
Working in the business world, being with clients as they work through their issues and life itself with everything it throws at us, has given me a wide depth of human experience.

People often have a lot more resources and skills than they are able to recognise, especially during times of stress. Some of our work together in the sessions will be to reawaken those skills you may have forgotten and build on them; to help clarify the challenges that you are now facing; to look at the different choices you may have and find different perspectives that may be helpful; to help you understand that you have the power to make changes in your life that will not only enhance your well-being but also of those around you. Sessions are normally for one hour, at a time arranged between us. I offer short and long term counselling and psychotherapy. Some people may have two or three sessions while others may decide that they would like longer term therapy. You don’t have to agree to any specific number of sessions and are free to stop when you feel the time is appropriate.

My training is in Integrative Therapy which means that I will use a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on which will be most useful to you. These approaches are drawn from psychodynamic therapy, looking how the past may have influenced where you are today; Person Centred, which means that the therapy can be client lead and gives unconditional, genuine and non-judgemental support throughout; Cognitive Behavioural tools, where we might look at how our thoughts could lead to our behaviours. Other approaches may be Existential, the immediate reality between therapist and client; Gestalt, ‘The whole is different from the sum of it’s parts’; Transpersonal, going beyond the individual personality and embracing the mystical, psychical or spiritual. I am also interested in and use polyvagal theory to understand out responses to the world. Polyvagal theory works with how the body responds to life and it's stresses.
