Therapist Information

I’m Geoff, a BACP registered counsellor and trainee psychotherapist.
I have been running an online private practice since July 2022, and in placements since January 2020 in community counselling services, charities and the NHS in IAPT (short-term) and Community Mental Health Team (long-term) settings.

I am currently approaching completion of an MA in Existential Psychotherapy at NSPC and am a member of the Society of Existential Analysis. I have also trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy,

First of all, I believe therapy is useful for anyone. What is commonly labelled as “mental health”, I would call “quality of life” - something we all struggle to manage.

In therapy itself, we require a workable relationship so the first task is to establish whether you are happy working with me and we both feel that you will benefit from it. In particular I want the therapy to be your space - if something doesn’t feel right please bring it up!

I would like at the beginning of our sessions to know what has brought you to seek therapy now, and what it is that you think you are looking for.

Therapy ultimately is as individual as we are as people. As a very rough example for what I would expect to touch upon in our sessions:

  • how you establish and maintain relationships;
  • exploring issues with living and how you cope with them;
  • identifying and exploring particularly problematic phenomena;
  • engaging more deeply with life.

I have experience and feel comfortable working with psychosis, issues related to interpersonal trauma, and other aspects of life that feel undesirable or you feel are responded to negatively. I am however opposed to any form of conversion therapy.

I chose to train as an existential therapist because even before I thought about becoming a therapist I was introduced to key concepts in my personal therapy and realised that I already chose to understand my life in ways that the modality truly resonated with and expanded upon.

I work with individuals and am qualified to work with anyone over the age of 14. I have worked extensively with clients with issues related to anxiety, stress (and burnout), neurodiversity and/or diagnoses related to past trauma such as personality disorders or PTSD.

Looking at why it feels like you aren't getting what you want out of life for whatever reason, whether a diagnosis or belief that something is holding you back, whether due to health, neurology, society, occupation, past trauma etc.

I do not charge for an email exchange and/or video or phone discussion to determine if you want to work with me.

Each session is 50 minutes, and can be arranged weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and can be reviewed any time.

I set a fee of £65 per session. This is open to negotiation and I offer batch payment discounts.
