I am a qualified and experienced online counsellor, registered with the BACP. I work with adults, of all ages and backgrounds, experiencing difficulties in a variety of areas of life, in the following settings
• non-profit charity counselling organisations
• private practice
I have many years of experience working in education with both adolescents and adults, as a teacher, trainer, and mentor. I've supported individuals with mental health diagnoses as well as physical and learning disabilities.
At various time in my own life, when facing significant challenges such as life changing health diagnosis, relationship change and loss, I have valued the opportunity counselling provides to speak with someone not invested in the outcomes. Having a meditation practice spanning over 18 years and personal experience in using mindfulness activities to develop greater self-awareness, I can assist you in developing your own tools for your journey.
I love exploration and have travelled widely, working, and living abroad in several countries, with diverse in cultures, beliefs, and languages. This has taught me to respect and value diversity in every aspect of life.
I work within the modality of Person-Centred counselling, founded by the American psychologist, Carl Rogers. Rogers believed the client, not the therapist, is the expert in their life and experience, having an innate tendency to grow and fulfil themselves; however, this can be blocked or distorted by life experiences.
Everyone has the capacity to reach their full potential and express their true self, a process called 'self-actualisation'. A therapist who creates an environment of acceptance and values you for who you are, enables you to achieve self-actualisation. I will endeavour to be honest and transparent in how I experience you and your world, offering you an empathic understanding of your viewpoint and experiences.
You will be encouraged to bring whatever you want to counselling sessions. I'll help you by creating a confidential space where you can be heard and hear yourself, working alongside you to encourage an exploration of your feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview. Developing more self-awareness can bring greater independence.
I have experience in working with young people and adults with anxiety, stress and panic attacks, depression and low mood, trauma, cancer or other life changing diagnosis, grief, and bereavement (including companion animal loss), loss and change - including employment and relationship, changes to body image - resulting from surgery, accident or through genetics, and addiction.
