I am passionate about creating an accessible counselling service for individuals who have mental health issues and/or other health needs.
I have considerable experience working with adults with a wide range of neurodivergence, mental health and physical health needs. This includes autistic individuals and those with sensory issues and sensory loss, adhd, dyslexia, anxiety and depression and chronic fatigue. I also have experience working with students and with people who are carers.
I work with adults. I aim to offer a flexible and accessible approach to therapy for individuals who may have difficulties accessing therapy due to fatigue, sensory overload or caring commitments for example. I work in a neuro divergence affirming way.
I regard myself as an Autism and LGBTQ+ ally
The online Counselling that I offer is based on a psychodynamic approach examining current and past life issues as well as feelings within the counselling sessions. It has 3 overlapping stages. I offer sessions of one hour length or equivalent for written work. I work in an open ended way where you as the client choose the duration of your counselling. It can include regular reviews of what you want to achieve from counselling and what you are finding useful within the counselling relationship.
Stage 1
This stage is about creating a safe space to explore your current thoughts, emotions and life situation while considering how they may relate to experiences in your past. This can include open questions as well as discussions about your current mood levels and discovering what you would like to achieve from the counselling.
Stage 2
This will involve a more in-depth look into issues that we have identified and how patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving in the past could be affecting your current life experiences. This stage may also involve some homework tasks.
Stage 3
The counselling can then consider personal actions and strategies to empower you to move forward and build towards your goals and improving your well-being. This includes the option for more goal focussed counselling where we discuss moving towards a specific goal and strategies to achieve it. This stage will include a discussion about progress towards your counselling aims and an assessment of your emotional level. During this stage we work towards the end of counselling and creating a post counselling action plan.
