Hello, I'm Sharon. If you are finding life stressful or challenging, I know from experience that counselling can help you to make sense of it all. I am an experienced integrative counsellor and I invite you to come and explore the issues that may be troubling you.
'Iremia' is a Greek word that means peace or tranquillity, something we all need in our lives. But sometimes that peace can be shaken by life's challenges. When this happens, it’s important to give ourselves the time and space to make sense of what is going on and to find a way through the difficult situations, feelings and emotions we are facing. I offer a safe space where you can do this. Counselling is like giving yourself a gift – a gift that says ‘yes’ to you, embraces the hope that you can let go of the 'stuff' that holds you back, works through whatever life has thrown at you and moves you towards being the best 'you' that you can be. It is a journey, one that I have been on myself and one that I continue to explore. Some of my inspiration comes from the words of the celebrated African-American poet, civil rights activist and auto biographer Maya Angelou: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” Exploring the difficulties you are facing can be painful and challenging, but it can also be empowering and liberating. Decide today (and everyday) not to be reduced by your situation. Come to counselling as you are and leave the way you want to be.
As an experienced integrative counsellor, I combine complementary counselling approaches and tailor them to your needs. For example, I consider how your early attachments impact your adult life, I use aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, to help you to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and how they can be challenged and I use aspects of Transactional Analysis, to help you to understand how you relate to others and to see if these patterns of relating work for you, or against you. I integrate creative approaches, as they can sometimes help to give you a unique insight into yourself and your situation. I also take an intercultural approach to therapy, where all aspects of a client's context and the impact of external realities that can negatively impact the client are considered. I work with people from a variety of backgrounds and with all faiths and none and have a special interest in supporting people experiencing racial stress and trauma.
I work with adults over the age of 18.
