I am a qualified UK-based person centred counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work online and via telephone and hold an advanced certificate in online counselling.

My experience includes working with historic abuse, anxiety, stress and feelings of depression, numbness or destructive coping behaviours. Often these are accompanied by a sense of losing yourself, not feeling worthy or feeling judged or ignored by others.

If you would like to have an informal telephone chat, please feel free to get in touch by email: kiren@kirensweetman.com

I believe that each of us has our own unique way of looking at the world based on our own experiences and beliefs. Our experiences can also shape the way we view ourselves, and sometimes thoughts such as fear, anger, sadness, shame or guilt can start to take over and make us feel uncomfortable, low, hurt, numb or even confused.

I will work with you to explore the origins of these feelings, and to try to help you to view your situation, yourself and those around you in a clearer way so that you can start to work towards a resolution to your difficulties, and finding yourself again.

Some of the difficulties I work with include:

  • Relationship difficulties - for example, family, friends or difficulty with work colleagues

  • Low self esteem

  • Low mood - for example, feelings of sadness, loneliness or generally feeling down or depressed

  • Feeling unheard, misunderstood or unloved

  • Domestic abuse, emotional abuse, coercive or destructive relationships, including historical abuse

  • Confidence issues

  • Feelings of anger, guilt, fear or shame

  • Support for people who have friends, family or loved ones who are dealing with issues such as addiction or destructive behaviours

  • Stress, including work-related stress

Person Centred counselling is a humanistic therapy that encourages self-awareness as a key part of the work we do together.

We will explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe way and at your pace. I will not seek to surprise you by bringing into our sessions anything that you do not wish to be discussed. It is your time, your space, and your life – and you decide in each session what aspects of your life and your thoughts that you want to bring in. I will hope that you will leave each session feeling heard and understood, and that we are working together on helping you to gain clarity on whatever difficulty you are bringing.

I welcome people from all backgrounds and in my relationship with you I will offer respect, honesty and a confidential, empathic, listening ear. You can feel safe knowing that I offer a supportive and non-judgemental approach.

I work online and via the telephone with UK-based adults over the age of 18.
