The ACTO mission statement
- to educate the public to the potential benefits of colour therapy.
- to promote colour healing and colour therapy as a low-cost, self-help tool for the maintenance of physical and emotional well-being in the wider community.
- to provide information support for members of the public and professional practitioners in the use of colour therapy.
- to act as an independent body to develop and maintain the high levels competence required by colour therapists to meet the requirements of Voluntary Self Regulation.
How will the activity of ACTO benefit the community?
The benefits are through:
- educating the wider public to the potential benefits of all modes of colour therapy.
- the community having access to information to empower themselves to use modes of colour healing and colour therapy as a low-cost, self-help tool for the maintenance of physical and emotional well-being.
- the community having an independent listing of colour therapy professionals who skills have been verified to the standards of best practice, thus ensuring the safety of the public.
- ensuring a clearer understanding of the role of colour therapy with Complementary and Alternative Medicine and to maintain the highest standards of practice amongst practitioners.
- the community having an independent body (not owned or linked to any particular school, therapist, tutor, author or product) that could represent colour therapy to the government, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, the General Regulatory Council for Complementary Therapies and the wider community.
- the development and maintenance of the best standards of colour therapy practice amongst therapists and colour therapy training by tutors and organisations to ensure that members of the public are safe and not at risk of being misled.
If ACTO makes any surplus it will be used for:
- printing and distribution of self-help leaflets for the public on how to use various modes of colour healing and colour therapy for physical and emotional well-being.
- development and maintenance of online resource for self-help for the public on how to use various modes of colour healing and colour therapy for physical and emotional well-being.
Voluntary Self Regulation
Working towards Voluntary Self Regulation, ACTO offers an independent resource on what is best practice in the field of colour therapy by providing:
•a Code of Conduct, Ethics and Practice
•a Register of Member Organisations
•a multi-level Register of Colour Therapy Professional Practitioners and other Professional Practitioners using colour
•a Disciplinary Procedure
•an Equal Opportunities Policy
•a Harassment and Bullying Prevention Policy
•a Grievance Procedure
•an agreed minimum standard for the education of Colour Therapy Professional Practitioners
•an agreed standard of practice for Colour Therapy Practitioners to meet or exceed those laid down as a possible National Occupational Standard
•an Accreditation of colour therapy Tutors and courses
•an Independent Verification of qualifications
•a Fair Assessment Policy for students of colour therapy
•a policy of Disclosure of Checking Criminal Records
•standards for Continuing Professional Development for Tutors and Professional Practitioners
•representatives to negotiate standards within and across the EU and the rest of the world
•a choice of insurance providers for Tutors and Practitioners within the UK
